Call for research notes/applications to
Workshop on how to write scientific projects in environmental science
Dates and venue: 5th to 9th December, 2011
Tam Dao, near Hanoi
Deadline for application: 30th September
We hereby invite Prospective Applicants for Research grants from Vietnam
to submit a Research Note and apply for participation in a Proposal Writing Training Course

Vietnam is one of the fastest developing countries of the South East Asian basin. Over the last two decades the country has experienced strong economic growth and although this development has led to an increase in the production capacity of the country and has significantly reduced poverty, the ecological integrity of many aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems is under threat. Vietnam is also becoming a popular tourist destination in South East Asia , partly due to the presence of several UNESCO world heritage sites. It is therefore clear that in order to reconcile the opposing processes of industrial and tourist development with the maintenance of ecological systems, a clear understanding of environmental processes and ecosystem functioning is essential.

This call

The central purpose of the workshop is to help provide young Vietnamese researchers, who often struggle to find independent research funding, with the techniques and skills needed for the preparation of quality scientific research projects. Furthermore, by bringing together a range of young researchers this workshop will also facilitate the development of a research network in environmental science.
To achieve this, the course provides training on research proposal writing skills in environmental sciences for submission to both national and international funding organizations.
The workshop will be held from the 5th to 9th of December, 2011, in Tam Dao, near Hanoi.
