Università di Pavia - Italy - Scholarships for citizens from developing countries

The University of Pavia (UNIPV) and its students decided to create the ‘Fund for Cooperation & Knowledge – in and out of Pavia’. The Fund is financed thanks to the contribution both of the students (2 Euros each) and of the University itself. The Fund is intended to provide scholarships to students from Developing Countries, who wish to study one year at the University of Pavia, and to UNIPV students who would like to spend some months in a Developing Country for studying, researching and/or training.

The Fund and the selection of the students are managed by a Committee composed by students, professors and officers of the University of Pavia, plus a representative of the DGDC, for a total of 15 members. The Committee will select - among the applicants – the students who will receive a scholarship for the Academic Year 2011-2012.

The deadline is 12.00 pm of the 30 May 2011.

Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS) Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia 2011

The Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS) is an initiative by the Malaysian Government to attract the best brain from around the world to pursue advanced academic studies in Malaysia. This scholarship aims to support Malaysian Government's effort to attract, motivate and retain talented human capital from abroad.

Talented international students with excellent academic records and outstanding co-curricular backgrounds are welcomed to apply for this scholarship and further their studies in any selected and well-established Malaysian public and private universities.

SEARCA Scholarships 2012-2013 for Master and PhD in Agriculture

The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) invites applications for its graduate scholarship (MS and PhD) in agriculture and related fields (including biological sciences, social sciences, economics and statistics, forestry and fisheries, environmental sciences, agro-industrial technology and engineering, biochemistry, and development management) for the academic year 2012-2013.

The scholarship is open to nationals of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam who are regular employees of academic or research institutions or government agencies and not older than 35 years old.

UNESCO-L'OREAL International Fellowships Programme for Young Women in Life Sciences (2012)

The UNESCO-L’ORÉAL fellowships scheme focuses on UNESCO’s premise that people are the world’s greatest resource and that innovation and excellence, especially among the young women community, deserve to be supported and encouraged through the concerted efforts of the international community. The award of the fellowships constitutes a key strategy through which impetus is being given to the enhancement of the role of women in devising scientific solutions to problems confronting humankind in the twenty-first century.

Candidates must already be engaged in pursuing research at the doctoral or post-doctoral level in one or allied fields of life sciences including biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, agriculture, medicine, pharmacy and physiology. Special attention will be given to candidatures from the Least Developed Countries(LDCs). Age limit 45 years.

ICE WaRM's Master of Water Resources Management Scholarships

The International Centre of Excellence in Water Resources Management (ICEWaRM) offers a scholarship program to high quality international students to study the multiple award-winning nested Master of Water Resources Management, including Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Masters options, delivered by its partner institutions. Hayek Fund for Scholars

The Hayek Fund for Scholars makes strategic awards of up to $1,000 for career enhancing activities such as; presentations at academic or professional conferences, travel to academic job interviews, travel to and research at archives or libraries, participation in career development or enhancing seminars, distribution of a published article, submission of unpublished manuscripts to journals or book publishers.

SEARCA Travel Grants

SEARCA provides Travel Grants to qualified agriculture and agriculture-related professionals and social scientists, including graduate students in an effort to reinforce the Center’s efforts and resources in the promotion of agricultural competitiveness and natural resource management toward food security and poverty reduction in the region. Travel Grants provide financial support of up to a maximum of US$1,200 to qualified applicants presenting scientific papers in international or local scientific fora.

This grant is open to Southeast Asian nationals who are staff members of a development-oriented institution or a graduate student of a reputable university in Southeast Asia.

Travel Grant applications are evaluated on a quarterly basis in the third week of the last month of every quarter. The application letter and supporting documents must, therefore, be submitted on or before the second month of the quarter preceding the evaluation.

Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew – Small Grants 2011
Through the Bentham-Moxon Trust, Kew Gardens (UK) makes 30 to 40 small grants a year to botanists and horticulturalists for plant collection and research; international visits or work at Kew; travel and conferences; and other project support.

Grants must involve a developing country.

Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) - IFAR’S Professional Development Program 2011

IFAR is a results-oriented foundation that supports partnerships, collaboration, and awards as a means of fostering scientific excellence in agriculture and related fields. IFAR’s Professional Development Program in 2011 will consist of the annual IFAR Small Grants Program, including the Ravi Tadvalkar Memorial Scholarship, and the Wilfried Thalwitz Scholarship. Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture – Seed Fund for Research and Training (SFRT)

The SFRT is open in ASEAN member countries for competitive grants for up to USD15,000 in research and training related to agriculture and rural development. Projects must be innovative and is accompanied by an appropriate plan for developing it into a potentially large-scale research/training program greatly relevant to the agricultural and development needs of the region.

Applicants will be Southeast Asian nationals of good moral character, graduates of at least a four-year degree, without significant funding support.

Nestlé Prize in Creating Shared Value – Applications 2012

The Nestlé Prize in Creating Shared Value is awarded in alternate years to an individual, NGO or small business for an outstanding innovation or project in the area of water, nutrition or rural development. The prize commits up to CHF500,000 to the Prize Laureate to assist in the development of the innovation and bring it to scale.

The Nestlé Prize is open to NGOs, small enterprises and individuals with a project which is:

• Innovative

IWC Water Leader Scholarships

Every year, the International WaterCentre (IWC) awards scholarships to a small number of excellent candidates who are accepted into the IWC Master of Integrated Water Management (MIWM). Scholarships are awarded to applicants who clearly demonstrate potential to become water leaders of the future.

The scholarship is available to eligible Australian/New Zealand citizens, Australian permanent residents and international applicants to study the IWC Master of Integrated Water Management (MIWM) program which begins in February 2012 (Semester 1).

New Zealand ASEAN Scholars awards

New Zealand ASEAN Scholars awards empower future leaders with the knowledge, skills and qualifications to make key contributions to economic, social and political development within ASEAN nations. 170 New Zealand ASEAN Scholars awards are allocated for eligible students from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines and Vietnam to undertake postgraduate study at a tertiary institution in New Zealand.

The New Zealand ASEAN Scholars awards are for full-time postgraduate level study, i.e. Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters degrees or Doctorates (PhD) in New Zealand. An indicative allocation of 30 scholarships is made available for Vietnamese nationals who wish to obtain a postgraduate degree in New Zealand commencing 2012.

Applicants from all fields are encouraged to apply.

Candidates from public institutions, civil society, NGOs and the private sector throughout Vietnam are all eligible to apply.

The World Challenge competition - searching for grassroots community projects that promote sustainable development

World Challenge is searching for grassroots community projects that promote sustainable development through innovation and original thinking. The mission is simple: to reward small businesses which have found solutions to some of the world's most pressing problems.

The judging panel will select the best 12 entries to be filmed by BBC World News and featured in a special ad series in Newsweek magazine.

The public vote will then decide who deserves to win.

Projects can be entered under six different categories: community welfare & enterprise, health & education, sustainable farming, energy, water, and environment. The winner will receive a grant of $20,000, with two runners up each receiving $10,000.

Australian Development Scholarships (ADS)/Australian Leadership Award Scholarships (ALAS)

Australia has a long history of providing scholarships in Vietnam to support Vietnam’s human resource needs and promote closer links between the two countries.

Since 1974 more than 3500 Vietnamese students have studied in Australia at tertiary institutions on Australian Government scholarships.

This year up to 250 Australian Development Scholarships (ADS)/Australian Leadership Award Scholarships (ALAS) are available to Vietnamese for post-graduate studies in Australia starting in 2012 under the Australia Awards scheme.

Both ADS and ALAS awards target priority human resource and development needs of Vietnam.

ALAS are awarded to those who have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities. ALAS recipients receive additional leadership training in Australia.

Disadvantaged applicants (i.e. those from designated disadvantaged rural areas, ethnic minorities and persons with disabilities) are strongly encouraged to apply and given additional support. Lecturers from provincial universities and colleges are also given priority.

The ADS/ALAS are administered on behalf of the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) by the Australian Scholarships for Development in Vietnam (ASDiV) Program

International Foundation of Science (IFS) Research Grants

Applications for IFS Research Grants are welcome from young scientists in developing countries to do research on the sustainable management, use or conservation of biological or water resources. This broad statement covers natural science and social science research on agriculture, soils, animal production, food science, forestry, agroforestry, aquatic resources, natural products, water resources, etc. Applications are accepted all year and are to be made on an IFS Application Form.

This grant is for citizen of a developing country, with a Master’s degree and under 40 years of age.

Asian Youth Fellowship (AYF) - Japan Foundation Asia Center; Japan Foundation – Tokyo

The Japan Foundation offers scholarships for Asian students to study the Japanese language, who wish to study at graduate schools in Japan and have strong wish to contribute to regional cooperation after obtaining a masters or Ph.D. degree.
