Program 1:

USDA Global Research Alliance (GRA) Fellowships

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), in cooperation with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is pleased to announce the 2012 USDA Global Research Alliance (GRA) on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases to Combat Climate Change Fellowships for Vietnam.

The application deadline for the 2012 Global Research Alliance Fellowships for Vietnam is January 4, 2012.

 

Targeted Research Areas:

  1. Developing Tools for Greenhouse Gas and Carbon Sequestration Assessments

 

  1. Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions Intensity in Crop Production Systems

 

  1. Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions Intensity in Livestock Production Systems

 

  1. Developing Databases and Strategies for Synthesis, Integration and Decision Support to Manage Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Carbon Sequestration in Agricultural Systems

 

Length of Fellowships:

Fellowships are between six to 12 weeks in length.  All program proposals should include goals that will be achievable within the timeframe.  After completing the U.S.-based portion of the fellowship, the mentor visits the Fellow’s home institution for up to 10 days to continue collaboration.

Eligibility Requirements:

Candidates will be evaluated, interviewed and selected based on the following criteria:

·         Citizen of Vietnam;

·         Good working knowledge of the English language;

·         Holds a masters degree with at least two years practical experience;

·         Currently employed by a university, government, research institution and/or other institution with the intent to continue working in the home country for a minimum of two years following the return from the United States;

·         Early to mid-stage of professional career; and

·         Experience and focus in the targeted research areas identified.

Program 2:

USDA Borlaug Fellowship Program for Vietnam

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is pleased to announce the 2012 Norman E. Borlaug International Agricultural Science and Technology Fellowship Program (Borlaug Fellowship Program) for Vietnam.

The application deadline for the 2012 Borlaug Fellowship Program for Vietnam is January 4, 2012.

Targeted Research Areas:

  • Biotechnology
    • Environmental Risk Assessment for stress tolerant crops
  • Food Safety
    • Food Safety Risk Analysis for meat (beef, pork and poultry) and meat products (including offal products)
  • Extension/Agricultural Education

o    Good Agricultural Practices for livestock (swine and dairy cattle) herd management

Length of Fellowships:

Fellowships are between six to 12 weeks in length.  All program proposals should include goals that are achievable within the timeframe.  After completing the U.S.-based portion of the fellowship, the mentor visits the Fellow’s home institution for up to 10 days to continue the collaboration.
